This project is a Brazilian consortium for the molecular identification of biodiversity. Organisms within different categories will be characterized through barcode, including: sea organisms, aquatic arthropods, terrestrial invertebrates, plants, fungi, parasites/vectors tropical diseases, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals from different Brazilian scientific reference collections.

Almost one hundred institutions contribute to BrBOL Project through species collection, barcode sequencing, processing local data and data integration to BOLD. BOLD (Barcode of Life Data System) is a bioinformatics platform for storage, analysis, management and publication of DNA barcode records from organisms.
